What We Do

Home › What We Do

Everything at The Green Classroom is hands-on and outdoors, and every activity can be adapted to different ages, abilities and needs. Our programmes are grouped under the four themes in our logo.

Food

Veg rows

Seasonal Vegetable Growing

From preparing the soil and sowing seeds to harvesting the crops and getting them ready to eat. Learn about the seasons, plant life cycles, soil health, composting and pollination, and see, touch, smell and taste fresh produce.

Hydroponics and Innovative Growing Methods

Growing plants without soil, using water and carefully managed nutrients. Monitor and measure growth, record results and compare hydroponics with growing in soil: science, technology and maths in action.

Ancient Orchard Care and Traditional Fruit Growing

Looking after our ancient orchard through the seasons: pollination, pruning, harvesting and the wildlife an orchard supports, together with the history of traditional British fruit varieties.

Farm-to-Fork Education and Food Literacy

Follow food from the field to the plate: growing, harvesting, collecting, storing, preparing, cooking and eating. Learn about seasonality, nutrition, food hygiene and reducing waste.

Community Market

A regular market selling what is grown and produced on the farm, such as seasonal vegetables, herbs, eggs and honey, alongside produce from local growers and small businesses.

Pony-Assisted Learning

Grooming, feeding, observing and caring for ponies builds confidence, patience, empathy and communication. It is especially valuable for children with special educational needs and for those who find a traditional classroom challenging.

Animal Care and Welfare

The daily care of our sheep, goats, ponies, chickens and alpacas: preparing feed, refreshing water, keeping their living areas clean and learning to read animal behaviour and welfare needs.

Chickens, Eggs and Poultry Care

Poultry welfare, life cycles and egg production. Collecting eggs under supervision is a chance to count, sort and record, and it leads straight into simple cooking.

Animal Products and Their Uses

How farm animals give us food, fibres and materials, from sheep’s wool to usable yarn. Hands-on sorting and making activities link science, history and creative learning.

People

Inclusive Learning and SEND

Activities with animals, gardening, food and nature are adapted to different abilities, communication styles, sensory preferences and learning needs, with clear routines and manageable tasks.

Schools, Families and Community

School partnerships, family sessions, community visits and activities for all generations, bringing people together around food, farming and nature.

A Greener Future

Greenhouses

Bee and Pollinator Education

The life cycle of bees, how a colony works and why pollination matters. Plant wildflowers, create habitats for bees and butterflies and, where appropriate, watch supervised beekeeping and learn about honey and beeswax.

Sustainability, Composting and the Circular Farm

Composting, soil health, reducing waste and using water and resources carefully, so that what the farm grows goes back into the land.

Organic Farming

The land has a long heritage of organic farming, and we are continuing the original landowners’ commitment to it: soil health, biodiversity, pollinator protection and careful use of resources.

Planning a visit?
